Tomé las dieciséis páginas que conforman el capítulo “Rooms” de la primera edición del libro Tender Buttons, de Gertrude Stein (Claire Marie, New York, 1914, pp. 63-78), y calqué la caja de texto de cada página. Las figuras resultantes se convirtieron en las distintas caras de un poliedro. En el texto de Stein las palabras no cumplen su función referencial ni se corresponden de forma coherente unas con otras, es por eso que las habitaciones descritas ahí, así como en este plano, son imposibles.
I took the eighteen pages of “Rooms,” a chapter of the first edition of Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons (Claire Marie, New York, 1914, pp. 63-78) and traced the text box of each page. The resulting figures became the various faces of a polyhedron. In Stein’s text, the words neither fulfill their referential function nor correspond coherently to those around them; that is why the rooms described in the text and, therefore, in this plane are impossible.
